Let’s talk about Normally Open and Normally Closed Solenoid Valves that ODE has to offer.

It’s actually very easy to distinguish and identify between the two. In a normally open valve, you can see where the groove lines are on the body. Normally closed, you can see a flush locknut.

In this scenario, if you do decide to change a normally open valve to a normally closed, you simply loosen the magnetic kit with a torq wrench. Once opened, you see the spring on the outside.

All you do is take a normally closed magnetic kit, which you see the spring is on the inside of the plunger, and put it on the existing valve. So now this valve will function as a normally closed. You can now tighten with a torq wrench.

It is a mechanical seal in most cases for a normally closed. Normally open would always have an O-ring on the magnetic kit. Again, it is as easy as removing the magnetic kit, and replacing it with either normally open or normally closed. It’s the same thing if you do need to do a repair as well, simply replacing the magnetic kit.

Since you are not able to tell with the naked eye the thread ends, all our valves are stamped to identify the port size and the thread ends whether it’s gas, NPT or the original sealing material. This is another great identifier for our to identify normally open and normally closed solenoid valves.
